The Columbia Valley Center for Recovery (CVCR) is a first-of-its-kind behavioral health facility in the Tri-Cities area. CVCR is designed to serve people at every point along the recovery continuum through four specialized programs, from crisis relief and stabilization to withdrawal management and long-term residential treatment for co-occurring disorders.

As the operator of the crisis and withdrawal services that will be offered at CVCR, Comprehensive Healthcare will ensure people in the Tri-Cities can access compassionate, individualized behavioral healthcare in their own community, close to family, providers, and support systems that are vital to their recovery.

Columbia Valley Center for Recovery serves adults throughout Washington State. Each program has specific eligibility criteria, and after an assessment, our clinical team works with individuals and their providers to determine the most appropriate level of care.
Priority placement is given to individuals from the Tri-Cities region and surrounding communities. When space is available, we are committed to serving individuals seeking care from across Washington.
Columbia Valley Center for Recovery accepts most major insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare. During the admission process, our team works with clients to understand their coverage, identify available financial assistance, and determine the best path forward.
No one will be denied services based on an inability to pay. At the same time, sustainable reimbursement for services is essential to ensure CVCR can continue providing timely, appropriate care for the community over the long term.
Individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis can access services directly by walking in or by calling 988 or 911. Law enforcement may also bring individuals in crisis directly to the center when appropriate.
If someone is unsure whether CVCR is the right fit, they can also walk into any Comprehensive Healthcare outpatient location through the Same Day Access program. Our team will help connect them to the appropriate level of care.

Benton County owns the Columbia Valley Center for Recovery facility. Comprehensive Healthcare has been contracted by Benton County to operate four key programs at the center, including Crisis Relief, Crisis Stabilization, Co-Occurring Residential Treatment, and a Secure Withdrawal Management Program.

Comprehensive Healthcare has received licensure to operate all programs. The four programs at CVCR will operate at full capacity once staff training is complete, and we’re confident that we can manage client needs as the facility ramps up to full capacity.
They will receive treatment at CVCR to help stabilize their condition, and to potentially refer them to other available programs for ongoing care. As a nonprofit community behavioral health provider, Comprehensive Healthcare is committed to serving individuals regardless of their ability to pay.

When a provider delivers medically necessary services to a community member who is unable to qualify for Medicaid / Apple Health or other insurance coverage, meaning that treatment activities will not be reimbursed, this is called “charity care.” Because of the way community behavioral health is funded system-wide, unreimbursed charity care is common in Washington state and elsewhere.
On an ongoing basis, we try to access other funding sources, including federal or state grants and municipal funding, to help cover the costs of staffing, facilities maintenance and other operating expenses involved in charity care delivery. Specific to the CVCR, Benton County has set aside funding that helps to cover charity care for residents of Benton County.
When alternative funding sources are not available, the inherent costs of charity care are absorbed as losses in our organization-wide operating budget. Essentially, we are providing services free-of-charge, which we are committed to as a mission-driven organization, but which places burdens on our ability to operate sustainably, and to invest in staff, technology and expanded programs.
While we and other community behavioral health providers are skilled at navigating this dynamic, it highlights the importance of state, county, city and other local leaders’ willingness to partner with us to ensure we have the infrastructure in place to meet community members’ needs and serve as a healthcare provider, employer and economic driver in the region.
No, throughout more than 50 years providing services in Central and Southwest Washington, we have not experienced meaningful numbers of individuals traveling to our region specifically to seek treatment. Typically, folks prefer to access community behavioral health care at a nonprofit provider closer to home. If we do see community members from another area, it is because they happen to be traveling or visiting relatives, just as many of us have visited urgent care or an emergency department while on a trip.
