We enjoy sharing information about our services, but the true impact lies in the powerful stories of those we’ve had the privilege to help. Here are a few from clients about their journeys to recovery:
The Path to Recovery: Tyler and Other Stories of Resilience and Recovery
After years of battling fentanyl addiction and failed attempts at recovery, Tyler made the decision to change. He sought out help through Comprehensive Healthcare and committed to treatment with the support of his care team. Their encouragement helped him stay on track, and now he actively participates in group therapy, finding purpose in helping others. When he reflects on his journey, Tyler is grateful for his progress, proving that with determination and the right support, recovery is possible.
From Despair to Hope
LaCosta Gardenhire’s journey from homelessness, addiction, and despair to recovery is one of hope – and a powerful testament to resilience. For five years, she lived out of her car with her three dogs, battling deep struggles. LaCosta’s turning point came when her son overdosed, prompting her to seek help. She found support at Triumph Treatment Center and through Comprehensive Healthcare peer counselor, Andrea Walker, who provided both professional guidance and personal understanding. Overcoming addiction, loss, and hardship, LaCosta rebuilt her life, achieving one year of sobriety, securing stable housing, and reconnecting with her family. Now focused on helping others, LaCosta encourages those struggling with addiction to seek treatment, offering a message of hope and transformation.
Community, Care, and Courage: Jennifer
Jennifer’s mental health journey began just before her 20th birthday, when she found herself in a dark and isolating place. Battling depression and undiagnosed mental health challenges, she was overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. After a stranger stopped to help her on the side of the road and called for assistance, Jennifer took her first step toward recovery—a path that would take years to navigate. With limited resources available in her hometown, Jennifer and her family traveled across the region in search of consistent care.
In 2015, Jennifer returned to Yakima and began receiving services from Comprehensive Healthcare. With their support, and the strength of her family, Jennifer continued her journey with renewed hope. In August 2024, when new symptoms emerged, she and her mother, Leslie, recognized the signs and acted quickly. At one of Comprehensive’s inpatient centers, staff identified that Jennifer was being overmedicated. With adjusted treatment and compassionate care, she recovered within days. Now more than two decades into her journey, Jennifer’s story is one of courage, perseverance, and the life-changing impact of a strong support system close to home.
