Comprehensive Healthcare Awarded Commerce Grant

Comprehensive Healthcare’s Adult Residential Facility in Sunnyside has been awarded $4 million from the Department of Commerce to be used in developing affordable housing.  The awarded housing project will serve individuals  lower incomes experiencing chronic mental illnesses.

“We will be increasing affordable long term housing units that will be built on land adjacent to our Vista Del Sol program, said Jodi Daly, Ph.D., President and CEO of Comprehensive Healthcare. “This is an opportunity to meet a significant need in the community and expand our continuum of care in the Sunnyside area.”

Comprehensive Healthcare plans to add 20 units with an expected completion date November of 2022. According to Comprehensive Healthcare, housing to support low income residents with mental illness remains a shortage throughout the South and South Central Washington region. This has also been indicated by local Community Health Needs Assessments and local authorities.

The Housing Trust Fund makes funds available for affordable housing projects through a very competitive application process. Applications are generally accepted once a year, but timing and frequency can vary. Out of 73 applicants, the Department of Commerce awarded funds to 30 projects from the 2020 Traditional HTF Funding Round to help develop an estimated 1,525 units of affordable housing across the state.
